Goin’ Coastal Charters Fishing Report for St Simons Island and Jekyll Island
4/25/17 – St. Simons Island Fishing Report
The Trout bite and Red bite has been red hot. The water temps are finally in the high 70’s and the inshore fishing is getting back to normal. The beach fishing for Trout should be kicking in once these East winds lay down. Whiting are here inshore and right off the King and Prince Resort and the Black Sea Bass bite is off the chain offshore. Spanish Macs and Cobia are here along with the Tripletail. We have been on solid bites every trip out to the Near shore reefs. Cobia, AJ’s and Kings will be the target in June along with Spadefish and the usual cast of Bottom fish.
The Spring Bull Red run is on with nice 30 to 45lb Bulls being caught inshore and right off the beach. The bait is in and the Bulls are running.
Inshore fishing for Trout and Redfish is wide open. When the full moon in May hits we will be catching respectable numbers of Trout and Reds We havnt hit our peak yet but its just around the corner. After this next full moon in May, the beach fishing for Trout will be on. Reds are steady and good numbers are being caught despite all the fresh water. Once the bite is on..we book up fast.
Tripletail fishing is on right now. Good quality fish are being caught off of Jekyll using live Shrimp under a popping cork. They have been moving out and in with the tide and we are having good shots at some trash can lid sized fish.
Black Sea Bass are biting anything dropped down that remotely looks edible. Limits of them are being pulled off of the reefs and structure north and south with some pushing the 4 and 5 lb mark . Now is the time to book your Black Sea Bass trip. It looks like the season will not be closed this year which is a good thing. The Sea Bass are all over every piece of structure we fish. Every drop we bring one up.
The slot Reds are moving around and some and nice upper slot sized fish are being caught. If you have not tried the Rage Peeler crab you have to give it a shot. The Reds we have been catching are slamming this bait with mean intentions.
